CLUB RULES
OBJECTS
1. This Association is called the “Burton-on-Trent Mutual Angling Association”, and shall consist of any number of members the committee may deem expedient for the working of the Association from time to time, from whom shall be elected the President and Vice-presidents.
The objects of the Association shall be to
i) acquire waters by rental or otherwise
ii) preserve and improve such waters by restocking, permitting only fair and sportsmanlike angling; and limiting the size of takeable fish.
MANAGEMENT
2. The management of the Association shall be vested in a Committee consisting of Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary, Assistant Secretary and Treasurer, all of whom shall retire annually at the Annual General Meeting, but shall be eligible for re-election, and twelve members, the four senior of whom shall retire annually at the Annual General Meeting, but shall be eligible for re-election. Six members of the Committee shall form a quorum and members will be active in office until the following Annual General Meeting unless a member notifies the Secretary in writing of his intention to resign.
3. The Committee shall meet at least every two months to conduct the business of the Association, and shall have power to call a Special General Meeting of Members at any time. Any three members of the Committee shall have the power to call a meeting of the Committee. One fourth of the membership of the Association shall have power to call a Special General Meeting by giving notice in writing not less than fourteen days before such meeting to the Secretary, with the object of calling it, and the Secretary shall give seven days notice to all members for all Special Meetings.
4. The Annual General Meeting shall be held not later than the end of March and the members will be notified by a notice in the press prior to the meeting. A Statement of Accounts and Balance Sheet will be available at the meeting.
5. The duties of the Secretary shall be to keep a register of members names and addresses, a waiting list (when necessary), a record of all meetings and discharge all other duties authorised by the Committee. He shall also assist the Treasurer in his duties where necessary.
6. The duties of the Treasurer shall be to receive all monies and bank the same at a bank to be decided by the Committee in the name of the Burton Mutual Angling Association. He shall keep a book of income and expenditure. He shall be responsible for a statement of accounts and balance sheet which will be prepared by, or audited by, a firm of Chartered Accountants, who shall be appointed at the Annual General Meeting.
7. Each member will be furnished with a copy of these Rules, so that he cannot plead ignorance of the same; and it will be the duty of the members to report to the Secretary immediately anyone infringing the same.
8. If any matter arises for which there is no rule it shall be decided temporarily by the Committee, whose decision shall be binding until confirmed or otherwise at the next following Annual General Meeting.
9. No alteration of these rules shall take place except at the Annual General Meeting or a Special General Meeting convened for that purpose. Notice of any proposed alteration must be given in writing to the Secretary not later than 31st December.
10. All the property belonging to or held in trust for the Association shall be vested in not more than four members of the Association as Representative Trustees for the whole of the members of the Association who shall be appointed at an Annual General Meeting and whose duties shall be:-
a) To apply all such property towards carrying out the objects of the Association or invest the same in their joint names on behalf of the Association in such manner and upon such terms as the Committee or a General Meeting may decide
b) In particular, but without prejudice to the generality of paragraph 10(a), to lend monies of the Association for the purpose of acquiring the Freehold or lease or tenancy of fishing rights with ancillary rights to be held by them as Trustees for the Association upon such security and subject to such terms and conditions as the Committee or a General Meeting may decide.
The Trustees of the Association shall be the Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. The liability of the trustees will be limited to the assets of the Association.
Where any document requires to be executed under seal, the Association’s seal shall be affixed upon the authority of the Committee.
ELECTION OF MEMBERS
11. Persons wishing to join the club shall contact the Secretary and be placed on a waiting list if necessary. All new members will be vetted by the Committee.
CONTRIBUTIONS
12. The committee shall have the power to determine all subscriptions or fees at their discretion according to current expenditure
13. Existing senior members must pay their subscriptions in full on one of the paying-in nights, between the hours of 7.30 p.m. and 9.30 p.m.; these being the Wednesdays of May at the Association’s Headquarters. Such members who do not pay in this manner must pay their subscriptions in full to the Secretary by Post, enclosing a stamped addressed envelope (C5 - 6¼”x 9” or larger).
Any member not having paid by 31st May will forfeit membership. Ex members will be allowed to pay their subscription and a rejoining fee provided that it is done by 31st December in that year. This will enable them to retain their continuous membership. After 31st December, they will have to seek re-election and be placed on the waiting list - having to pay the entrance fee as a new member.
Proof of membership is by an identification card together with a current receipt. It is the member’s responsibility to provide a passport sized photograph of him/her self, the identification card lasting for life, or until resignation.
Proof of payment of subscription is by a current receipt. A wallet will be provided for the safekeeping of the identification card and receipt. It is the member’s responsibility to renew membership each year, by producing the identification card and the appropriate subscription. The subscription required for the following season will be advised in the Letter to Members.
Replacement Identification cards, wallets or receipts will be charged for.
GENERAL RULES
14. Members must read and understand these Rules. Members breaking any Rule may be expelled from the Association. THE COMMITTEE’S DECISION IS FINAL
15. All members must obey the Environment Agency (E.A.) bye-laws.
1. Keep to the river bank or tow path.
2. Close all gates.
3. Not leave any litter.
4. Not damage any property.
5. Not light any fires.
6. Not take dogs or guns with them.
7. Keep a distance of 15 yards apart, if requested.
16. Any member committing any act injurious to the welfare of the Association will be expelled. Members, when fishing, must produce their identification card and receipt for the current season on demand of other members or bailiffs. All members should be on the alert to prevent trespassing by asking strangers to produce their identification card and receipt.
17. If any unauthorised person or persons be found fishing in the waters of the Association, such person or persons may be prosecuted at the discretion of the Committee.
18. All coarse fish must be returned to the water (including pike and eels) on termination of fishing (except for use as live bait according to E.A. rules). One brace of Trout and one brace of Grayling may be taken per day.
19. During the close season for coarse fish, fishing for trout is by fly only.
20. Guest Day tickets are available to all members except Juniors.
21. Any Member may take his/her spouse fishing free of charge. Senior members may take persons under the age of 17 free of charge in a effort to teach/encourage them - provided that they all fish the same peg, with NO increase in the number of rods allowed per peg. (See club rule 27)
22. For all matches indicated in this booklet and/or in the press, no members shall pleasure fish either bank of the match length during the match. (This also applies to British Gypsum matches held on the shared water and indicated in this booklet).
23. Any member specifically fishing for pike or specimen carp on any club waters, must use an unhooking mat.
24. Night fishing at Branston Water Park, or any other water designated by the Committee, is controlled by use of a night permit that must be applied for each year. A Charge may be made and/or numbers may be restricted. They will be obtainable from specified Committee Members.
25. When fishing the River Dove anglers must not fish the swim of another angler already fishing from the opposite bank, unless they have no objection.
26. Barbless Hooks : Any person fishing at Caldwell Pool must use barbless hooks. Anyone specifically fishing for carp at Branston must also use barbless hooks.
27. Only two rods are allowed on all club waters except Branston Water Park and Manor Park, Kings Bromley, where 3 rods are allowed, subject to EA rules.
28. A publicity ban applies to prevent members from publishing information regarding specimen fish or Burton Mutual venues, without first gaining approval from the Secretary.
29. Only semi-barbless treble hooks are allowed (with the exception of lures where barbed trebles are allowed).
30. Carp sacks are allowed during the hours of darkness and for a maximum of one daylight hour only.
31. All salmon caught must be returned to the water.
MISCELLANEOUS
Your identification card does not entitle you to fish BJAC waters.

Canoeing
The agreement has been renewed without significant change for this season. The main points are:
1. It applies to all canoeists, who must display on their person, or canoe or paddle, a form of identification, which should be quoted if any complaints or comments are to be made.
2. It covers the following stretches of the River Dove at the following times:-
(a). From Marston Bridge to 200 yards below Marston Weir on Monday evenings from 4.30 p.m. until sunset - April to July inclusive. (Maximum of 20 canoes)
(b). Anywhere under “Flood Conditions”, which are deemed as water above the parapet at the Monks Bridge, or ABOVE 1.5 metres on the marker by Tutbury Road bridge. (Maximum of 30 canoes)
(c). Anywhere on March 15th, 16th, or 17th, or the first weekend of the closed season for coarse fishing.
