This is a large gravel pit consisting of two connected pools.

The 1st Pool - Nursing Home Pool, is down Manor Rd (Royal Oak).

The 1st Pool - Nursing Home Pool, is down Manor Rd (Royal Oak). Car park shared with the Bowling Club, so we can only use it from 1st Sept to 31st March. When closed, park on the verge carefully! This pool is deep! Up to 30’ in places though mostly 20’ to 25’. Don’t worry it’s full of fish, mostly Skimmers, Roach, Hybrids and Perch with the odd bigger Bream to 5lbs and Pike to 20lbs. Also holds a few Carp, Tench and Eels. Pole and feeder are the best methods due to the depth. The fish will ‘come up’ in the water and to keep catching, change your depth regularly, to as little as 3’ in the summer! The opposite bank to the car park is shallower and if you turn right over stile from the car park and go over the ‘hump’ it is also shallower ( 13’)!

The 2nd Pool - Yacht Club Pool

This is sign posted off the A513 Rugeley Rd. Go through the gate (key req.), the car park is 200m on right (Park in car park only!). This pool holds the same species as the Nursing Home Pool, though is a lot shallower. The bay to left of the car park is still 20’ deep as is the river mouth. To the right of the car park the pool is approx 12’ deep all over. The boundary is the river mouth and at the end of the gravel bank. Non fishable waters are shown on the map below as XXXXXXXXXX. A small number of rods are reserved for Hanson Sports Club, Cannock Police, and Sailing Club members.

We have aquired the fishing rights for ‘Saddlesall’ - the large gravel pit through the gap (cutting). Access is from the lay-by on the A515 north of Kings Bromley. Go across the bridge over the first arm of the River Trent; turn left and follow the river upstream (do not take short cut across the field). The fishing on the river is leased to BURSLEM A/C. There is no specific parking (we are looking for some). You are advised NOT to park in the lay-by.

Relations with the Boat Cub

Both the boat club and BMAA committees are working hard to ensure good relations between the two clubs. The boat club is aware of the problems which can occur and is pressing it’s members to be aware of our problems. BMAA members have been accidentally locked in by Sailing Club members. By agreement the Sailing Club will now use our lock. If the gate is locked when you arrive/leave then make sure you lock it after you. Sometimes the Sailing Club will need to leave the gate open. If this happens then a sign will be visible on the gate. We will all be using the same key.

MANOR PARK SAILING CLUB

We list below for your information the problems that the Boat club have. Please understand that at times they have legal and insurance requirements for the speedboat to dash about, not to mention the rescue of people in the water..

The boat club have 3 safety boats which are required for emergencies. They also have to be regularly tested by the club and also inspected/tested e.g. by their insurers. In addition some training sessions are also required. The boat club will make every effort to keep the wash to a minimum. We will also be provided with a list of their open days, training days and race days. If you experience problems other than on those days and believe them to be through “joy-riding”, let the secretary or a bailiff know ASAP.

The other main problem area is in the gap to the far side of the river. The gap is narrow for sailing boats to get through, especially when they have to tack etc. it is shallow opposite where we fish. In addition not all are expert sailors. With the problems getting through the gap, they cannot always spot where an angler has a pole/rod/floats etc.

We have agreed that anglers fishing in or near the gap (cutting) should remove their tackle from the water (treat it as a missed bite) when any boat is going through.

We will be providing the Boat Club with a list of our match dates.
