Burton Watersports Club

A summary of water usage for the benefit of Burton Mutual Angling Association

Burton watersports club has been established since 1961 and operates a member’s only policy with regard to watercraft. Membership is valid on a yearly basis from the 1st March.

Normally our members would use the water from the Leicester line bridge upstream to round about the Riverside hotel area, but sometime go further upstream. In order to fit in with other water users (Rowers etc) we have recently renegotiated to have the following times:-

Sunday : from 12.00noon until dusk

Monday : all day until dusk

Tuesday : all day until 7.00pm

Wednesday : all day until dusk

Friday : all day until dusk

Saturday : from 12.00noon until dusk

All of our members have third party liability insurance, and we have full vessel inventory at the club so can identify any members vessel (jetki, skiboat, jetboat etc). Every members vessel should also display the current year membership number clearly on their vessel. Our aim as a club is to show respect for other water users to ensure we all have the opportunity to enjoy our chosen leisure activities on the water.

We have no powers whatsoever to stop non members from launching their vessels from grounds other than the club. As these people are not part of the club they are also unaware of our rules and beliefs. Unfortunately these people do get our club a poor name as they tend to disregard other water users and because they are on ‘jet Skis’ and the like are automatically associated with the club.

If you experience problems with any water users all I would ask is that you look for the club number and try and get it where possible. Try and get some details on the vessel. Also if possible try and find out where they are launching and get car reg numbers if possible.

. BMAA Members - Pass this information on to any of our officials.
